How we create

Design
Our designs begin with intention and finish with timeless appeal. Each piece is thoughtfully shaped to celebrate balance, proportion, and quiet beauty. We believe true elegance lies in simplicity, where every line and curve elevates the diamond's natural grace.

Gemstones and setting
We select each gemstone for its clarity, colour, and distinct character. The setting is crafted to enhance its brilliance while offering strength and security. Together, the stone and its placement create a refined statement that feels effortless and enduring.

Gold
We use only the finest gold, chosen for its richness, purity, and lasting beauty. Available in classic yellow, soft rose, or cool white tones, our gold is carefully finished to complement each design and harmonize the piece.

HOLLYWOOD NORTH
In the late nineties, movie and television filming was heating up downtown. Solitaire was frequently commissioned for movie props. Complex requirements included: Stephen King's Storm of the Century, Grey Gardens, Down to Earth, 54, Four Brothers, Relic Hunter, Nikita, and Driven.

NATURAL DIAMONDS
Before the advancement of the internet, visits to Europe and USA were necessary to secure exquisite diamonds for clients. Solitaire's natural diamonds are graded by the GIA.

ALEX ARMEN
Toronto artist and jewelry designer Alex Armen introduced both digital jewellery designs and 3D printing to the Canadian market. Alex exclusively designs for Solitaire's clients.

NATURAL GEMSTONES
Many of Solitaire's fine gemstones are skilfully cut in Germany's gemstone cutting town of Idar-Oberstein. Break away from the indistinctive by exploring fresh combinations of natural gemstones.

What Our Clients Say About Us
Our client reviews are a testament to our expert craftsmanship, personalized design, and ethical, high-quality gemstones
EXCELLENT Based on 412 reviews Mohamed Patel2025-08-13Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I can’t say enough amazing things about Alex and Arbi! From the very first conversation, the entire process of designing both my fiancée’s engagement ring and mine was seamless, stress-free, and genuinely exciting. They took the time to truly understand our vision and brought it to life with flawless designs and incredible attention to detail. The craftsmanship is nothing short of perfection, every angle, sparkle, and finish is exactly what we hoped for (and more). These rings aren’t just pieces of jewelry; they’re works of art that hold so much meaning for us. Alex and Arbi made what could have been an overwhelming process feel effortless, guiding us every step of the way with warmth, professionalism, and unmatched skill. We’re beyond grateful, and every time we look at our rings, we’re reminded of the care and talent that went into them. If you want something truly special, I couldn’t recommend them enough! Saad Chaudry2025-08-10Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We worked with Alex & Arbi for custom engagement rings for my fiancé and I. For her - we came in with a clear picture of what we were looking for. We showed Alex & Arbi some inspiration videos and they worked with us to determine the exact specs for the ring. They're very knowledgeable and experienced which helped us make well informed design decisions. For my band - we weren't too sure about what we were looking for. They helped us lay out our options based on our preferences and lifestyles - this really helped us ultimately pick my band. These guys are the real deal! We couldn't be happier with the experience and look forward to working with these guys in the future :) robert steiner2025-08-10Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. These guys were fantastic -- can't say it enough. My wife's engagement ring (a round of small diamonds on a silver setting) had lost some stones.... and, separately, I'd given her a diamond necklace for an anniversary. She had a vision of combining them in a new ring, and the Solitaire pair worked closely with her to design the new ring, and create it, with care, exactly on time and with a great budget. Really, they're an amazing discovery in Toronto. Jennifer Pham2025-08-10Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had the honour of designing my engagement ring reset, wedding band and custom bracelet with solitaire. Alex and Arbi are very professional and knowledgeable and great to work with. I had such fun designing these pieces that will now be family heirlooms. I am very happy with how the pieces turned out and they are made with amazing craftsmanship. I cannot wait to work with them for future custom jewelry projects. Roshik Sharma2025-08-06Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Working with Alex and Arbi was easy and fast, and the quality of the work is excellent. Based on something I'd seen online they designed a one-of-a-kind pendant which turned out exactly as envisioned. It was a gift for my mother's 70th birthday, and she adores it! Tree Egames2025-08-05Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Im from Germany and on vacation in Toronto. Suddenly my glasses broke, the hinge broke off. Of course I needed my glasses so I asked a person in a Mall for help, they recommend me Solitaire. I scheduled a meeting and went to the place with my friend. Infront of the building we met Alex. We had a really really nice conversation, he is such a kind person. He repaired my glasses immediately on spot. And he did all this on a National Holiday. This is what service looks like !!! He saved my vacation in Kanada and I will never forget this experience.Thank you ! Timmy Cheng2025-08-02Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. At first, I was a bit hesitant to go with a custom option given the higher prices but in hindsight, the product quality and customer service that I received was well beyond what I paid for. When I shopped at other jewellery stores, I felt that I was treated as a generic customer who was given a series of generic options for a ring. When it came to working with Alex and Arbi, I could immediately sense their passion for gemstones and ring design. Both were extremely professional in guiding us through every single detail of the process. Even when we wanted to make several changes, they were more than happy to bring our dream engagement ring to life! M B2025-08-02Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a really great experience with Kaitlyn, she’s really professional and helpful with my purchase Karthik Nagarajan2025-07-30Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Alex & Arbi, were truly a class above the rest when it comes to personal detail, craftmanship, customer service and professionalism in the jewelry industry. They helped me and my wife design the unique ring we wanted and executed our vision flawlessly while adding their own touch that truly make it a 1 of 1 product. Would highly recommend anyone who want a pure custom experience!
FAQS
Among the most popular custom diamond ring designs include: Solitaire, hidden halo, cluster, vintage, and organic designs.
Although natural and lab-grown diamonds look alike and are graded equally by the GIA and IGI, their production process is the main differentiating factor. Natural diamonds have been formed naturally for millions of years, while lab-grown diamonds are manufactured from diamond seedlings. The cutting and polishing process for both are the same. However, natural diamonds cost more and may better retain value compared to lab-grown ones.
- Carat
- Scientific Elaboration:
- Mass: The carat directly correlates with the size of the diamond; larger diamonds are typically rarer and hence more valuable.
- Density: Diamonds have a specific gravity of around 3.52, meaning that for every carat, the volume of the diamond can be calculated using density (mass/volume).
- Impact on Value: While carat impacts perceived size, it doesn’t directly correlate with value per carat — larger diamonds often have a higher price per carat due to rarity.
- Layman’s Explanation:
- Carat is like the weight of the diamond. One carat equals 200 milligrams, so the bigger the diamond, the more carats it has. But just because a diamond is big doesn’t mean it’s automatically more valuable; it’s all about how rare that size is.
- Cut
- Scientific Elaboration:
- Light Performance: A well-cut diamond reflects light internally from one facet to another, maximizing brilliance, fire, and scintillation.
- Proportions and Symmetry: The cut affects how light exits the diamond. Ideal proportions ensure light is returned to the observer’s eye rather than leaking out the bottom or sides.
- Grades: Cut grades like Excellent, Very Good, Good, etc., are based on proportions, symmetry, and polish, which are determined using precise measurements and optical analyses.
- Layman’s Explanation:
- Cut is about how the diamond is shaped and polished. A good cut makes the diamond sparkle a lot because it reflects light in the best way. If it’s cut poorly, the diamond might look dull because light escapes instead of bouncing back to your eye.
- Color
- Scientific Elaboration:
- Color Scale: Diamonds are graded on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown).
- Molecular Structure: Diamond’s color comes from nitrogen atoms that can replace carbon atoms in the crystal lattice, absorbing certain wavelengths of light.
- Spectroscopy: Advanced techniques like UV-Vis spectroscopy can measure color by analyzing how light is absorbed or transmitted through the diamond.
- Layman’s Explanation:
- Color looks at how clear or colored the diamond is. The best diamonds are almost completely colorless. Any color you see reduces the grade because ideally, diamonds should look like they’re made of light.
- Clarity
- Scientific Elaboration:
- Inclusions and Blemishes: Inclusions are internal flaws (like crystals or feathers), whereas blemishes are external (like scratches or nicks).
- Microscopy: A gemologist uses a 10x magnification loupe or microscope to grade clarity. The size, number, position, nature, and relief of inclusions are considered.
- Impact on Light: While inclusions can affect the diamond’s transparency and brilliance, they can also add to its uniqueness or, in some cases, enhance its value if they create special effects like asterism.
- Layman’s Explanation:
- Clarity checks for any tiny imperfections inside or marks on the surface of the diamond. Most of these can’t be seen with the naked eye, but they’re there. A diamond with fewer or smaller flaws will be clearer and usually more valuable, though sometimes these flaws can make a diamond special or even more desirable.
This dual explanation should give you a comprehensive understanding of how each ‘C’ affects the quality, value, and appeal of a diamond.
- Unmatched Personalization: At Solitaire x Alex Armen, your jewelry isn’t just an accessory; it’s a piece of your story. Every piece is tailored to your taste, ensuring that your jewelry is as unique as you are.
- Artisan Excellence: Alex Armen brings a legacy of meticulous craftsmanship to the table, combined with Solitaire’s expertise in selecting and setting the finest gems. This collaboration means your custom jewelry will not only be beautiful but also of the highest quality.
- Toronto’s Unique Touch: Working with Solitaire x Alex Armen gives you access to designs that are exclusive to their Toronto studio. You’re not just buying jewelry; you’re investing in a piece that reflects the city’s vibrant, diverse art scene, crafted just for you.
