There are a lot of jewellers in Toronto doing custom design, and many do excellent work.
What is less obvious is how much the process can vary behind the scenes.
Custom design can mean anything from modifying an existing template to creating a piece entirely from scratch. The differences are not always obvious at first glance, but they often become apparent over time, in how a piece wears, how well it maintains its structure, and how a stone performs in daylight.
Where the Difference Is
In our studio, time is invested in areas that are often streamlined elsewhere.
- Stone sourcing is undertaken on a one-off basis, giving priority to performance rather than specifications. Beyond the initial design, proportions are studied and refined to feel balanced in the hand, not just visually, but physically.
- After casting, each piece is carefully refined and finished with durability in mind, not simply polished to completion.
This is a more deliberate approach, and it does affect price.

Not All Custom Pieces Are Created Equal
While two pieces may appear similar on paper, they can differ significantly in construction.
Rarely is the difference found in a single detail. Instead, it comes from the accumulation of many small decisions, most of which are not visible at the time of purchase.
Our View
We are less concerned with the volume we produce and more focused on creating pieces that will stand the test of time, both in structure and intention.
This is why our pricing may be higher than some local custom offers.
It reflects not only what is made, but also the thought and consideration that go into it before the piece is ever created.
